Technically not a pinball machine,
but with many parts making it look like one (including a pinball machine-like body and a dot matrix display), Slugfest was built by Williams in 1991. The game most closely resembles a pitch and bat machine and features a single bat (‘flipper’) and a single ramp. Slugfest is a Sports themed (baseball) “bat game”.
“Bat Game” meaning:
“Pitch & Bat games are characterized by a game design similar to baseball, in which a bat is used instead of flippers to hit the pinball towards targets and holes at the far end of the playfield. instead of a plunger, these games usually have a pitching mechanism which shoots the pinball towards the bat at a speed and direction often controlled by a second player.
The playfields are usually quite bare compared to pinball machines, having no bumpers, ball guides or lights like pinball machines, but because they share many of the same mechanical elements as pinball machines, they are included in the database.
The playfield usually contains only the targets and holes, labeled with possible pitch results such as single, double, out, etc., and sometimes some small jumps and a second level of targets/holes at the back. Some games even mimic the players running around the bases, often with mechanical figures in the backbox running around a baseball diamond”. ipdb.org glossary “Bat Game”
