Doctor Who Pinball Machine was released in 1992. It based on the British sci-fi television series which has been in production since 1963. The game itself features the first seven “Doctors” who appeared in the title role. Each Doctor is associated with a different playfield scoring feature and can be selected by the player throughout game progression.
The gameplay offers various incarnations of the Doctor, and each one changes the rules and scoring of the game.
The main feature of the Doctor Who Pinball Machine is the Time Expander unit. It is a moving mechanism with different levels. Players are challenged to lock balls and collect targets, leading up to the game’s main multi-ball mode. The Time Expander mini-playfield raises and lowers during play. In its lowest position (Level 1), the kick-out holes are accessible. In its middle-position (Level 2), five round white standup targets are accessible. And when in its upper position (Level 3), three flyaway targets are accessible.
